Redmond, WA-based Lumen Orbit Raises $10 Million for Space Data Centers
February 26, 2025: Formerly named Lumen Orbit, this Redmond, Washington-based company received first in December 2024 and then February 2025 a total of $21 million in seed funding, one of the highest-ever seed rounds coming out of a YC, according to Philip Johnston, Starcloud’s CEO and one of its Founders. The funds are planned to be used to place a network for megawatt-scale computer servers in Earth orbit, powered by grids of solar panels that could stretch as much as 2.5 miles in width, as reported by GeekWire.
These space-based facilities could be an alternative to land-based data centers that currently take up significant amounts of property and require significant electrical power. Read more here.
